Hello! I'm a Certified Birth Doula and Birth Doula Trainer with DONA International. I've attended many births and taught hundreds of expectant couples in childbirth classes. I have also trained many, many beautiful woman to be birth doulas. Birth is a beautiful and powerful event in every woman's life, no matter how she chooses to do it. My goal is to support "my moms" in every way I can, even if I wouldn't necessarily make the same choices, because women are smart and intuitive and they know what's best for themselves and their babes. I see so much strength and so many miracles when I attend births. I HAD to start writing them down to share with others! Please enjoy. NOTE: All mothers I write about give their permission. In some cases, names and other identifying factors may be changed at the mom's request, but the stories and events remain the same.
We have a secret in our culture, and it's not that birth is painful. It's that women are strong.
The power and intensity of your contractions cannot be stronger than you, because it is you.

There is power that comes to women when they give birth. They don't ask for it, it simply invades them. Accumulates like clouds on the horizon and passes through, carrying the child with it.

Babies are bits of star-dust blown from the hand of God. Lucky the woman who knows the pangs of birth for she has held a star.

Yes you are amazing!!! :)
I completely agree with the comment "you'll never know how much you want a doula until you've had one!" I did know I wanted one, and luckily found and hired Melissa, but after going through my first birthing experience I don't know how I could have done it without her. She helped me have the birth I wanted and she was such a blessing to have! My husband heartily agrees. :)
